My Lord Chamberlain, His Galliard

(John Dowland)

A dance for two lutes, composed by John Dowland (for a description of his life, refer to the comments with Come Again). The piece was dedicated to a noble patron. Sixteenth century composers often worked for noblemen and wrote pieces to honour the patrons and their friends and acquaintances. Thus many a name from past times is preserved in music.
