Choix de mes Fleurs Cheries: Le Romarin

Mauro Giuliani

The fifth movement from the Choix de mes Fleurs Cheries, ou Le Bouquet Emblematique by Mauro Giuliani (1781 -1829), one of the conversions to modern notation of a near manuscript from the Boie Collection. In the description of Le Myrte I tell more about this adventure.

Le Romarin -the Rosemary- is a permanently green shrub which carries violet/white flowers. It is mainly known because it is used as tasty herb to cheer up your stews. The Rosemary is a sign of friendship and loyalty, I guess that’s why it forms part of the well known phrase Parsley, Rosemary and Thyme from the folk song Scarborough Fair.

Giuliani payed a tribute to this flower in a dramatic tone in a marche funebre like movement. The last measures even remind of a Beethoven piano sonata!
