This is an arrangement of Cantata 147 Jesu Meine Freude by Johann Sebastian Bach. (1685 - 1750). Refer to Bourree for more biographical data of Bach.
You can put forward pro's as well as contra's when discussing the arrangements of Bach's music. Possibly he did not mind himself, he for instance arranged music by Vivaldi for Church Organ.
Adversaries will argue that every adaptation will affect Bachs's music, because it is so complete despite its complexity, so that nothing can be changed or left out. Supporters will have the counter argument that the beauty of Bach's music makes it worthwhile to be played, also on other instruments than the music was composed for (by the way, a common practice for Bach and his contemporaries, using the same thematic material for diferent instruments or ensembles).
Whatever is most becoming for the music, this arrangement provides a nice impression of the outline of the cantata and additionally plays well on the guitar.
