Notturno No 2
José Ferrer
This piece was composed by the Spanish composer Jose Ferrer (1835-1916), a contemporary of Francisco Tarrega and Miguel Llobet.
Sometimes Ferrer's compositions are criticised as being unoriginal and rigid in form. For what I know of his music, I do not agree, it's fun to play and quite characteristic for the musique de salon in 19th century Spain.
The piece is built up around a romantic theme which flanks a long middle section. This piece is not very easy to play, but its romantic style and nice harmonies make it rewarding to play.
