Romance sans Paroles
Auguste Zurfluh
This is a romantic Song without Words by the French composer Auguste Zurfluh. Auguste Zurfluh lived in the beginning of the 20th century, he was a guitarist at the Opera-Comique in Paris and founded a musical publishing house -Editions Zurfluh- which still exists today.
Romance sans Paroles is a peculiar piece. It starts with a sad Andante, which leads to a more joyful waltz-like Allegretto theme. A Lento has the function of a kind of trio and the piece ends with a da capo of the waltz.
It is fun to play. Initially I was surprised about some more or less daring modulations and harmonies, but they all fit in the broader sense of the piece.
