Rondo from Sonata Ms 87

Niccolo Paganini

This is the Rondo which follows the quiet Minuetto from Sonata MS 87 by Niccolo Paganini (1782 - 1840).

Although Paganini is mainly known for his violin compositions, he was a reasonably prolific guitar composer as well. 43 Ghiribizzi, 37 (two movement) Sonatas, the well known Grande Sonate and a mixed bag of other works.

This Rondo is the fast movement from the Sonata in Manuscript 87. I heard an extremely virtuoso performance of this piece by Pavel Steidl, he played it in his well known operatic creative freedom at ultra high speed!

I would suggest, take it a bit more easy. For myself, I like to play the ‘minore’ middle section at a slighly lower tempo than the outer sections. In the outer sections, however, I am aiming at maximum speed (although that is not extremely fast for me!). Take good care of the alternating stroke in this piece!
