Sonata in D

Giuseppe Brescianello

This is the Sonata in C by Giuseppe Brescianello (1690 - 1758).

The Italian Brescianello spent the most of his musical career abroad. He was leader of the court chapel at the Bavarian court in Munich and held a post at the Opera Theatre in Stuttgart.

Breascianello is a clear representative of the Italian Baroque, his music is fullk of the typical structures that were common those days.

He composed 18 Partitas - this Sonata froms part of this set - for Callichone, a lute-like instrument with practically the same tuning as the modern guitar. This makes transcription less troublesome and the compositions sound as they were conceived.

Sonata in D is a short sonata with the movements Allegro, Andante and Allegro. If you like to play the Allegros joyfully and briskly, you need some practice indeed.
