Jose Ferrer (1835 – 1916) is little known on the major concert stages, but his work is popular among guitar enthusiasts like me because it is accessible music and has subtle romantic twists.
El Amabile is indeed an aimable little melody with the technical challenge of lifting the melody out of the accompaniment.
Plainte Amoureuse is Ferrer in Spanish mood, it is clearly in a minor key. Technical points of attention here are the emphasis on the melody and the execution of the decorations.
Ferrer wrote a small suite for guitar, entitled Veladas Intimas, or intimate evenings. The suite has four pieces, I have already recorded two of them. Allegretto is a happy start, Notturno closes the evening with a slightly more elaborate piece with a nice ending in E-major.
Two small studies, Ejercicio 1 and Ejercicio 2, both in E Minor, form a short exercise with a clear wink. Fun to play.
