This little suite, titled Gerbe des Fleurs, the flower basket, is fun to play. It was one of my first performance pieces from the Romantic era.
Ferrer composed a large number of pieces in romantic 19th century style. The first part –Cantilene Espagnole– has phrasing which gives it a Spanish character. The following Pavane is a more or less free form which also became popular with later Impressionistic composers. The Mazurka provides straightforward waltzing. The final movement -the Berceuse– is a romantic song.
