Bartolome Calatuyud

The Spanish guitarist / composer Bartolome Calatuyud (1882 – 1973) was born in Mallorca. He got his first lessons from Antonio Mestres and even had a few lessons with Francisco Tarrega.

He became a concert guitarist and traveled for a while, but eventually settled down in Mallorca where he opened a guitar school. Additionally, he composed an oeuvre of relatively easy and accessible music with clear Spanish mood, which is also nice material within reach of amateurs.

The first two pieces on my first guitar lessons were composed by him. Hence a small tribute on this site to a practically forgotten composer.
