Brazilian Folk Tunes

Isaias Savio (1900 – 1977) compiled ten arrangements of Brazilian folk music tunes. Long time ago, Maracatu was the first one I played in guitar lessons with Thea van der Meer.

Isaias Savio was a Uruguayan guitarist, composer and music educator whose music was inspired by the folk music of Uruguay and Brazil. In Brazil he became known as a teacher of classical guitarists such as Marco Pereira, Carlos Barbosa-Lima and Luis Bonfa.

The Brazilian folk songs have been part of my own settings for a long time. Beautiful melodies are Modinha and both Toadas, Peixe Vivo and Mulher Rendeira.
