Capriccio 9 (Op. 20) (Legnani)

I heard Capriccio Nr. 9 for the first time performed by Raphaella Smits. The piece appeared an attractive mini-opera, with a dramatic and very orchestral beginning and end, and a beautiful recitative section in between. On paper it looks frightening, those demi-semiquavers. Fortunately, the tempo is Largo! The demi-semiquaver holds the main challenge of the piece, the bass melody with the thumb must be very clear above the hustle and bustle of the chords on top of it.
