The Choro is a lyrical music genre that originated in Rio de Janeiro in the nineteenth century. Although Choro means “little lamentation”, the melodies are often cheerful, with Choro Nr. 1 by Heitor Villa Lobos (1887 – 1959) as a striking example. Choros developed into popular Brazilian street music.
Choro pra Jany, a composition by Jose Barrense Dias, however, does have that slightly mournful melancholy that belongs to a song about a lost lover. With a few technical challenges you will have a nice piece to play.
