Clavelitos

Clavelitos, Little Carnations, is a composition by the Spaniard Joaquín “Quinito” Valverde Sanjuán (1875 – 1918). He was a composer of Zarzuelas. With its alternation of spoken and sung text, a Zarzuela resembles operas and operettas. They became popular in the Spanish-speaking regions of Europe and South America.

The song Clavelitos became popular after Valverde Sanjuán’s death. Amazingly, it found performers all over the world. Even the Dubliners ventured into it. The guitar arrangement is by John Zaradin.
