Dans, Gavotte and Tarantella (Rung)

Frederik Rung signed for Nr. 46 Dans, rapid piece in compact chord progressions. Speeding things up is the challenge here.

Imitation of old musical forms like the ones from Renaissance and Baroque were common practice amongst 19th century composers. Just like this Nr. 47 Gavotte by Frederik Rung. The piece resembles a baroque piece more than Rung’s other baroque imitations. Yet the chord movements remain typical for his era.

Henrik Rung stayed in Italy for a while because he had obtained a scholarship to continue his musical studies there. Doubtlessly he heard lots of music there that would play a role in his memories of Italy later on. Nr 50 Tarantella is a folk-song like theme in 6/8 measure. Play the piece briskly.
