Benedetto Marcello *


Benedetto Marcello (1686 – 1739) belonged to a musical Venetian noble family, one of his brothers was composer, the other religious poet. At the insistence of his father he did not endeavour music alone, he combined music with the profession of jurist. As a composer he is best known for a collection of psalms in part-singing with accompaniment of an instrumental ensemble.
