Recordings: Héctor Ayala

Héctor Ayala (1914 – 1990) was an Argentine guitarist and composer. He started out in his younger years as an accompaniment guitarist for singers of folk and tango music. Later he became a member of the guitar orchestra Escuadrones de Gitarra led by Abel Fleury, which was popular in Buenos Aires in the 1930s. During and after the second world war he became a member of the tango orchestra of the Bandoneón player Anibal Troilo.

Ayala’s compositions mainly consist of arrangements of South American folk music. His suite Serie Americana with arrangements of folk music from Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, Chile, Argentina and Peru is considered his most important work.

I collected ten pieces from various sources, including a guitar course from the Manuel de Falla conservatory in Buenos Aires, and recorded them in their entirety. A nice project.
