The first question with the term contemporary is: “Which date is that?” I would sya that I do not know, because the culture historians do not know how they want to call the past present. I have heard many names for 20th century music: Impressionism, Modernism, Neo-styles, Avant-Gardism, Serialism, Microtonalism, Minimal Music and at a certain time Contemporary Music.
I would say that obviously exact classification is tricky.
