Biography
Ivan Padovetz (1800 – 1873) was a Croatian guitarist/composer. He started his musical career as a violinist, but at an age of eighteen he heard Mauro Giuliani play in Vienna, and thus he turned to the guitar. He settled in Vienna and started a career as guitar virtuoso and composer. Unfortunately, he suffered from eye problems and became blind in the end. Nevertheless, he went on playing concerts until his death in 1873.
Padovetz played on a ten-string guitar of his day, yet his works are quite playable on a six-string guitar.
Music
Unterhaltungen für die Gitarre Op. 6 is a collection of relatively easy pieces (at least with reference to the remainder of his repertoire) that are suitable for beginners, as advertised on the front page of the work.
