John Playford published The Dancing Master for the first time in 1651, a collection of English folk dances with musical performance and dance instructions. This collection continued to expand until the last book appeared in 1728. John Duarte arranged some of these Playford Tunes for solo guitar.
If all the World were Paper is an arrangement of an English nursery rhyme. As a professional author, the title appealed to me at the time. 😉 Yes, then I still wrote on paper in those days. A modern version – If all the World were Digital – appeals to me less, although this is becoming more and more reality.
Here too, Duarte brings the melody as a variation to the bass line and even adds a quasi-fugue. Stay technically sharp with this piece!
