Onder een Linde Groen is an arrangement of the English folk song In a Garden Green. In concealed terms the song describes what lovers sometimes do when they are strolling in the woods. Completely in accordance with the customs of the times, nobody ever worried about copyrights, Vallet made an arrangement as well.
The tune was quite popular in Holland, judging the fact that there are arrangements for other instruments as well. Jan Pietersz Sweelinck made one for keyboard and I even heard it playing on a Carillion.
The recording was an exercise for an online recital evening. The main challenge turned out to be a transparent performance of the variation on the first theme and the haste that manifested itself in the last section of the piece.
