Romanza from Serenade in G (Mozart)

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 – 1791) originally composed his Eine Kleine Nachtmusik (Serenade for Strings in G major KV 525) for strings quartet, although there are versions in which another melody instrument like a flute replaces the first violin. The piece includes four movements –Allegro, Romanza, Menuetto and Rondo– even though there is some discussion amongst musicologists around a fifth movement, the Finale.

Andrew Forrest made a nice and enjoyable arrangement of this piece for guitar quartet. Guitar 4 has the 6th string tuned to D. The complete Serenade was quite a long piece, so I made an extract in the form of the Romanza, the slow movement. The individual parts fit on two pages and form a nice pastime for a guitar quartet. Forrest succeeded in maintaining the atmosphere of the original very well.
