Poulenc used an old baroque dance form for a serene piece with a repeated pattern. As far as I know this is his only guitar composition, he wrote it at the insistence of the guitar virtuoso Ida Presti (1924 – 1967) (known from the duo Lagoya/Presti). The challenge of this piece is theme consistency in combination with sufficient variation.
