She moved thru the Fair is a song with wonderful lyrics and an almost ghostly melody. The melody was collected and chronicled by Herbert Hughes (1882 – 1937), the Irish poet Padraic Colum (1881 – 1972) wrote the text.
There have been quite a few variants on the text, but the story is the same: A girl tells her lover at the fair that the family allows her to marry him. However, a marriage does not come, because shortly afterwards the man meets her as a ghost and they hope for a marriage in the afterlife.
Jim Kelleher wrote this arrangement for, mind you, a guitar tuned in DADGAD. Hardly playable in the normal tuning, well, see it as a curiosity.
