Slaep, soete Slaep (Vallet)

During my brief career as an amateur-guitar teacher I have made some arrangements of classical pieces for a duo setting, with a relatively simple melody part and an accompaniment for the teacher. My aim was to start playing together as soon as possible.

This piece was composed by the French composer and lutenist Nicolas Vallet. He avoided political troubles in France by moving to Amsterdam, a metropole in those days. There he published Le Secret des Muses in 1613, the book in which this arrangement of a popular Dutch folk song was included.

The piece was very suitable for separation of melody and accompaniment. After some trickery with Sibelius, this duo was the result.
